Microblading FAQs
Micoblading FAQ
What is microblading?
Microblading is a technique used to create natural looking hair strokes. This is a semi-permanent brow tattoo performed with a small handheld tool, using a feather stroke technique to produce the appearance of fuller eyebrows or to enhance the natural features of the face. Microblading is softer/more subtle than a permanent tattoo, using different pigments. These pigments are designed to gently fade over time.
Microblading can dramatically correct or fully reconstruct lost eyebrows and is a must for those wanting to enhance their brows or who have little to no eyebrows, thinning brows from age or over-tweezed brows.
How long does it last?
The treatment is considered semi-permanent and will fade over time. Touch-ups are recommended every 1-2 years to maintain shape, colour, and definition. Skin type, products used in skin care routines and sun exposure may also cause the pigment to fade faster.
Does it hurt?
A topical anaesthetic is applied to the area to minimise discomfort, followed by a liquid anaesthetic during the procedure. Some clients may feel a slight discomfort, but it’s relatively pain free for most. After the procedure, redness and slight swelling in the area is normal. Clients describe the feeling as being similar to a light sunburn.
How long is the appointment?
First is a patch test, this is carried out at least 48 hours before appointment, also some pre-procedure advice will be given. This is to ensure that there are no allergies to the products being used. This generally is a walk in and takes 5 minutes.
The appointment itself takes on average 2-2.5 hours. Time is spent measuring and drawing on a symmetrical set of brows and agreeing on your perfect shape and colour, then the procedure.
What to expect from microblading
Immediately following your procedure, the area will appear to be darker and bolder in colour and more sharply defined. This will last 3-4 days. Do not panic! It is normal.
The complete healing process takes about 4-6 weeks. During this process, this will soften and lighten. Be patient, even if you think too much colour has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating. Wait at least 6 weeks to see the true colour, at which point touch-up/adjustment can be done if necessary. Keep in mind that micro-bladed brows heal up to 40% softer than the initial colour.
